    Yes… it’s true.  I’ve done quite a few over the last year and I’ll admit it… it’s because they’re just plain fun, and because I love the creative interactions that ensue within the ELT community. What can you see in these clouds? And what do you see in your students?

What does it mean to be “polite”? #etymology

  What does this sign mean to you? Do you often add it to your tweets, sms, or quick messages to friends, family, acquaintances?  Why?  If you took it off would it change the message?     On a lazy, sunny, snowy afternoon in Paris I joined 55 others from around the world to listen to Chia Suan Chong share her thoughts and research on Politeness and Pragmatics in ELF. Not another rich teacher…

  Very funny… right?  But why is it funny? If I had said “rich doctor, rich lawyer or rich businessman”, we wouldn’t have batted an eye.     Why so?  Is our professional path not valuable, or worse, not valued?
